Danae Kalyva

PhD StudentSpin ballerina

Danae received her MSci in Physics from University College London (UCL), where her master’s dissertation investigated ultracold atomic magnetometry using a Bose-Einstein condensate of rubidium atoms. She is currently a PhD student in Dr Jon Breeze’s group, researching quantum-enhanced nuclear magnetic resonance using nitrogen-vacancy (NV-) centres in diamond. Her work combines spin polarisation methods, like dynamic nuclear polarisation, and cavity quantum electrodynamics to improve MRI sensitivity and probe the limits of high-resolution medical imaging.

Interesting fact: climbed Mount Olympus and can confirm Zeus has excellent taste in real estate.
